Over the past two weeks, the local Italian scrap market has indicated small declines in prices. While Italian market players define prices as “stable”, they also report that in general market activities are on the slow side.

One Italian source commented, “Finished steel sales are also slow, with very few sales, so prices went down. Accordingly, some steel plants are thinking of reducing production in the coming months.” The tightness in scrap availability continues, but so does slower demand for scrap. “Hence, prices are subject to the punctual needs of the consumers,” was a comment from another Italian source. Depending on the individual needs for scrap, voiced prices may move up or down in Italy, with some producers just waiting for the time being.
